According to the Maio approach, architecture is more than just the material and the context. It is nurtured with ideas and concepts that go beyond the contingencies of a specific place and time.
In this lecture, the Maio representative will discuss each of the studio's projects in conjunction with the notion that architecture cannot be understood as an independent concept, but as part of a whole: a broader, more complex cultural and social network. For Maio, creating architecture means organizing relationships and establishing adaptable systems. Architecture generates a sense of order where things can happen.
Maio is a young architecture studio made up of Maria Charneco, Alfredo Lérida, Guillermo López and Anna Puigjaner. The studio members combine their professional activities with academics, research and publishing. Studio members have been editing the Architects’ Association of Catalonia's journal Quaderns d’Arquitectura i Urbanisme since 2011. They also lecture at the Barcelona School of Architecture (ETSAB) and the Vallès School of Architecture (ETSAV).
