Leaving the materials bare, from the entrance of the house the different areas and actions of the complex are perceived. We sought to differentiate the original house from the expanded area, highlighting the existing granite in the old building, and enhancing the image of the splinted concrete. in the new sleeping area.

After visiting several plots in the Sierra de Guadarrama, with Lucía and Pablo, good friends and promoters of the order, we were clear when entering that plot in Navacerrada.
Behind the door, we find a small house from the middle of the last century, surrounded in a Tyrolean style plaster and protected by a gabled tile roof in very poor condition. Around, an impressive plot with great native vegetation and tree wealth were two small buildings, a swimming pool and numerous masonry walls of Madrid granite They organized with good judgment the more than 1,800 square meters and its almost 15 meters of unevenness.
The property gave us the option between demolishing and designing from scratch, or taking advantage of part of the existing constructions. After making some coves and discovering that under the plaster there was good-looking granite masonry, we decided to preserve the old house and take advantage of this main volume to house the public uses of the program.

For the most private area of the house, we designed two concrete volumes, which we would support on one of the existing granite walls. This decision allowed us to volumetrically articulate the house to reduce its visual impact and be able to adapt more easily to the existing elements of the plot.
With the slope towards the best views, we decided to orient the expansion towards the southeast, framing the Navacerrada reservoir within large windows on the projecting fronts of the cabins. With this gesture, thanks to the reflection of the vegetation, we managed to lighten the whole and blend in with the environment.
When deciding on the finishes, we wanted to differentiate the original home from the expanded area. In the latter, the cubes were made of slatted concrete with a landscaped roof. In its existing volume, once the cover was removed and the granite was discovered, we resolved it with a wooden truss supported by the large side walls. This allowed us to create a large porch, without any support that could interrupt the views. To increase the feeling of lightness, graphite-coloured zinc was used to finish it.

Finally, to unite the original home with the expanded area, we used a glass space on the north façade, from which access is made. Leaving the materials bare, from the entrance of the house the different areas and actions of the complex can be perceived.
With the existing granite on the right, and the slatted concrete in the bedroom area. We trust that we have achieved a friendly performance with the landscape. An action that allows the people who live in the home to interact with the nature that surrounds them and be aware, from each of the rooms, of the privileged environment that accompanies them.
