"La Herencia de Coderch" will open on November 27th at MINIM in Barcelona displaying architect Coderch's legacy and the last project he worked on at the end of his life. On occasion of the exhibition, MINIM produced "Remembering Coderch", a documentary directed by Poldo Pomés featuring architects Oriol Bohigas, Carlos Ferrater, Oscar Tusquets, Federico Correa and Rafael Moneo among others.

José Antonio Coderch was a brilliant architect who was able to combine Catalan Modernism and elements of Gaudi and Jujol's architecture with the International Style architecture. His quiet work, far from spectacle architecture, was an introverted synthesis, deeply rooted in tradition and craft and with no artifice or easy outcomes.

Coderch's work is similar to that of a tireless craftsman, who amazes us with his patient and stubborn creation. A perfectionist designer who draws the same story over and over again until he considers he's found the ideal solution.

The exhibition, which will run from November 27 until January 30, shows a hitherto unknown project. Organized by MINIM, it is the result of over a year of research in which plans and original documents from the great architect's last years have been recovered. 12 panels show all the documents from the project, its history and a recreation in various infographics.

The show also recreates a typical "coderquian" interior, in which we can see personal items that were donated by the family such as the Llambí enclosures, the Chapel fireplace, the Safari chairs  Espolla his home, his pipes, his carefully labeled and classified music, his books, his letters, his whisky...

The installation is supported by the poetic recreation of two of the objects that Coderch was obsessed with. The blind that isolates, communicates, airs and filters the light, and the lamp that illuminates and indicates the centre of the house.

This is an unfinished project, an innovative concept that Coderch worked on for many years, whose documentation was missing or not classified and has been recovered for this exhibition. The project shows the search for the ideal flexible housing block in which each dwelling can vary its dimensions and configuration by sharing space with adjacent houses both vertically and horizontally.

The aim of the exhibition is to show Coderch's tireless research process in his pursuit of a better floor plan as the setting for people's lives. The intention is to show his brilliant, innovative and still modern idea.

"Remembering Coderch" Poldo Pomés

The film is a choral portrait of the architect as a human being. Directed by Poldo Pomés, collected the testimonies of those who worked with Coderch, who knew him, or have then made significant contributions to the study of his work. Away from the labels, a man appears deeply loved and respected by those who knew him well.
