Ruptura Silenciosa from School of Architecture at the University of Porto. has organized this conference has been called INTER[SECTIONS], and held in the Facultad de Arquitectura de la Universidad de Oporto the great school by Alvaro Siza, on the river Douro), on 11, 12 and 13 September next, participating in its "keynote speakers" with the most recognized global research on the relationship between architecture, film and city: Dietrich Neumann (Brown University), François Penz (Cambridge University), Richard Koeck (Liverpool University) y Steven Jacobs (Gante university).
No other method of visualization matches the power of ‘moving images’ to represent architectural and urban spaces as ‘lived’ and ‘inhabited’. Through the use of space, time, mise-en-scène, characters and plot, film can be seen as a medium that condenses important debates on architecture and urban life. Moving images also have the capacity of generating ‘a sense of place’, a phenomenon that is not only related to the shape and form of the physical reality of the space filmed, but also to our experienced and haptic connection to the use of light, sound, music and narrative structure.
They invite participants to submit proposals for either papers or panels not exceeding 1.500 characters (including spaces) or 240 words, considering topics such as Urban Cinema, City Symphonies, Space and Politics in Cinema, Spatial Identity on Screen, Spatial Narratives or Architect(ure)s in Film. We particularly welcome contributions on the presence of urban and architectural themes in cinema and the role of film in the construction of spaces.
