On this 10th edition of the FAV, Claire Dusonchet and Julien Plessis have been awarded with the Public Award on the Montpellier edition, for their installation Goldfish.
The Festival des Architectures Vives aims to highlight the work of new generations of architects, landscape architects and urban planners, as well as to discover unexpected urban areas. Many works allow interaction of the visitors with facilities, only during the time of the festival, when it's over everything disappears, leaving no physical trace. The festival aims to initiate a global thought on architecture and development in existing urban contexts and to generate a dialogue between the works and contemporary heritage.
Description of the project by Claire Dusonchet and Julien Plessis
With the installation "Goldfish", we want to offer the visitor a moment for daydreaming and contemplation, the installation creates a space for meditation. Through a theatrical stage, that consists of the black ground from which emerges a golden pond inhabited by carps, the installation reveals the volume of the court and alters our perception.
It is a reinterpretation of the figure of the Zen garden, an abstract and unique composition which provides a harmonious contrast with the court. Here the materials are in contrast with one another, as the black ground surface responds to the stone walls.
Similarly, the shapes interact; the fluidity and asymmetry of the golden pond is in contrast with the highly structured geometry of the building.
Finally, the stability of the mansion contrasts with the changing surface of the pond. Beautiful and radiant, this perpetual transformation of the reflections complete the contradiction, giving the scene a strange and timeless character.
