The house renovation is located in Jinonice, a district of Prague, on the north edge of Prokopské údolí national park. Jinonice has been a part of Prague city since 1922. Part of Jinonice is also the historical Slavic settlement Hradiště Butovice from the 9th century.
Atelier 111 architekti was commisioned to renovate this abandoned house, formed by gradual addition of masses, some of which overtopped the original one. The new design preserves only the oldest part made out of stones oriented towards the street and uses it as an entry to the main living floor in the two new masses.

The tallest part is dedicated to the children. All of the living areas, including children´s bedrooms, have a direct connection to the sunlit sloping garden, which is shielded from the street by the mass of the house.

Project description by Atelier 111 architekti

A narrow street, where the sleepy character of old Jinonice is still preserved, broadens out to create a tiny square with a well. It was dominated by an abandoned house, formed by gradual addition of masses, some of which overtopped the original one. The complex of these small buildings, placed in the sloping garden, was in a very dilapidated uninhabitable state.

The old and the new part are visually unified by the colour of the stucco plaster and by beaver tail ceramic tiles on the roof. The age of the individual parts is revealed by the detail, the original morphology is in a light contrast with the contemporary minimalist form.

Atelier 111 architekti. Their first collaboration as Atelier 111 dates back to their studies at Faculty of Architecture of Czech Technical University in Prague. Their first success, a special prize in an open architectural competition for treatment of urban space in the city of Tábor in 2002, gave them passion and motivation for further projects. In following years their studio began to expand. Through cooperation with experienced colleagues, they enriched our professional skills. Aside from architectural design of residential, public and industrial buildings, they have been focused on projects of biogas plants since 2006.

In 2010 they founded the Johann Hochreiter company which soon became one of the most important suppliers of biogas plants in the Czech republic. They were greatly enriched from our experiences gained during construction management of technologically complex power plants, as well as in the implementation of their other projects. They offer our services in the field of project design and related administrative activities, assistance in tender for contractors, cooperation and supervision in implementation of construction
