Next September 30 a retrospective on the extensive experience of British architect David Chipperfield will open at the ICO Museum, curated by Professor Fulvio Irace.
The exhibition will bring together for the first time in Madrid over thirty projects for different cities that, besides summarizing his career, will allow us to approach his perception of space and thus understand how Chipperfield conceived architecture.
After studying at the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London in the early 80s, Chipperfield began working in the studios of Richard Rogers and Norman Foster, to finally establish his own studio in 1984. Today, in addition to the London studio, he has with offices in Berlin and Milan.
He has carried out projects such as the Palace of Justice in Salerno (Italy), facilities of the America's Cup Sailing in Valencia, the Museum of Modern Literature in Marbach (Germany), the Cemetery of San Michele Venice, City Justice of Barcelona, the Neues Museum in Berlin on the Museum Island, or the remodeling of Sforzesco Castle in Milan.
Chipperfield has combined his work in studio with teaching as a professor of design at various schools of architecture in the UK, as well as in several European and American universities. Among the many awards he has received throughout his career stand the Heinrich Tessenow Gold Medal in 1999, the RIBA Stirling Prize in 2007 or Mies van der Rohe Award in 2011, among many others.
