The architectural studio based in the Czech Republic Atelier 111 Architekti has designed a family home in the town of Dolní Miletín, in the south of the Czech country, that seeks to have the reference of a traditional house in the area using a more contemporary architecture.

Responding to the needs and demands of the inhabitants of the house without forgetting or isolating the rural environment in which the house is located has been the main challenge for the architects when devising the project.
The home designed by Atelier 111 Architekti is articulated around a porch and its own intimate outdoor space thanks to its U-shaped structure. The proportions and the gabled roof have been designed traditionally to create harmony with the rest of the house. nearby buildings. The colours used have been white and orange, through the plastered walls and ceramic tiles that connect with the nearby landscape.

The building is made up of three wings and offers the first technical facilities, garage, study room and outside the kitchen. In the second section or wing, parallel to the access road, is the entrance and living space raised to the ceiling. A glass wall covered with a porch connects it to the patio. Finally, the third wing houses the most private area dedicated to the bedrooms.

Description of project by Atelier 111 Architekti

What does usual construction of family houses in South Bohemian village look like? Find the smallest possible plot of land, often in the forecourt of a large property. Build a small square house with hipped roof on it as quickly as possible. Decorate it with burgundy concrete roof tiles and blue or greenish facade. Surround the plot with a typical panel fence and plant thuja trees along it. What about the fact that I can't see the landscape? The most important is that no one can see me. Find out later that the house doesn't cover all my needs. Build garage, eventually, convert it into double garage. Add a garden house for the lawn mower and tools, a gazebo for grilling, a shed for wood and connect everything with interlocking paving.

The family house in Miletín is our answer to how to enter the environment of a South Bohemian village with contemporary architecture. We knew from the beginning that we wanted to create a simple and generous volume that could accommodate all the demands of a family. House that will not need to hide from its surroundings in order to develop its own intimacy, because the mass itself determines yard and frames surrounding fields and forests. Facade of the house complements the character of housing development, it does not just create hard boundary "mine behind the fence" and that around.

We work with archetypal shape of gable roof and traditional proportions, looking for their spatial variations. There is no need to think too much about the materiality of the house, we follow tradition and experience. White and orange color, plastered walls and beaver tail ceramic tiles appear in the landscape.

The three-wing building offers technical facilities, garage, study room and outdoor kitchen with covered seating in one wing. The second wing, parallel to the access road, occupies entrance and main living space raised to the roof. Glass wall covered with a porch connects it to the yard. The third wing serves as an intimate bedroom area.

Atelier 111 architekti. Their first collaboration as Atelier 111 dates back to their studies at Faculty of Architecture of Czech Technical University in Prague. Their first success, a special prize in an open architectural competition for treatment of urban space in the city of Tábor in 2002, gave them passion and motivation for further projects. In following years their studio began to expand. Through cooperation with experienced colleagues, they enriched our professional skills. Aside from architectural design of residential, public and industrial buildings, they have been focused on projects of biogas plants since 2006.

In 2010 they founded the Johann Hochreiter company which soon became one of the most important suppliers of biogas plants in the Czech republic. They were greatly enriched from our experiences gained during construction management of technologically complex power plants, as well as in the implementation of their other projects. They offer our services in the field of project design and related administrative activities, assistance in tender for contractors, cooperation and supervision in implementation of construction
