Peter Steinhauer is a Singapore-based photographer developping his work when the building structures are wrapped during construction time. His ‘cocoon’ series, are shots of the amazing edifices entirely wrapped in a veil of vibrantly colored silk — in fact a typical structural material, which prevents debris material and prevents workers falling into the void. Enveloped in the brightly-hued fabric, the towers cloaked in the web of textiles transforms the cityscape, seeming more like a massive artistic intervention rather than a construction device. I guess that upon seeing this for the first time, Steinhauer thought which would be an installation by Christo.
White, red, blue, yellow and green fibers act as a layer, draping over every structural feature like a cape, framing the urban landscape. The series’ name is a reference to the sheath that wraps some insects during a stage of their metamorphosis from caterpillar to butterfly - an appropriate way to understand the image of buildings when are undergo their own structural renovations.
