EL MERCADO DE LA CEBADA. Let's put some color on the market!
The Mercado de la Cebada (Barley Market) is located in the heart of La Latina, and is one of the largest wholesale food markets of Madrid. It was built in 1868, and during the beginning of S.XX was one of the most important markets of Madrid. For hygiene problems, the building was demolished in 1956, building the current market n 1958, but lost importance, becoming a simple neighborhood market. Currenly, the market activity is almost zero, are practically dead. Other old Madrid markets, such as San MIguel, in Calle Mayor, or the Mercado de San Antón in the nerighborhood of Chueca, have retired conjugated stalls selling traditional foods of visitors.
Our work with J&B can serve as starting signal for the rejuvenation of this market. In an immediate way, and only a thin layer of paint, the market will change from a seemingly dead place to an icon of Madrid. A colored landmark that will atract local and foreign into the building.
This will be the largest Urban Art Spain, and one of the largest in the World.
