MÉNDEZ BLAKE
Jorge Méndez Blake (Guadalajara, Mexico, 1974) builds his work on the basis of the intrinsic relationship between art, literature and architecture; approaching literary works as spatial powers that can be translated into concrete objects.
The artist uses analysis and synthesis as tools to transform the narrative and poetic into visual compositions, seeking to make evident the material aspects involved in the act of writing. Similarly, Méndez Blake has devoted much of his work to studying libraries as relational systems in which the historical and cultural dimensions of a given context are combined.
His work has been exhibited individually and collectively in various museums and private institutions among which stand out: the Musee d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, Paris, France; The Museum of Contemporary Art Denver, Denver, United States; The Museum of Latin American Art, Los Angeles, United States; The Aspen Art Museum, Colorado, United States; The Kunsthalle in Mulhouse, France; The PROA Foundation, Buenos Aires; The Marcelino Botín Foundation, Santander; The Casa Encendida, Madrid; And the Stedelijk Museum Schiedam, Amsterdam. In Mexico, he has exhibited at the Museum of the Palace of Fine Arts, the Tamayo Museum and the JUMEX Foundation, among others. He recently participated in the thirteenth Istanbul Biennial and obtained a scholarship from the Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation in Miami.
