Francine Houben (Holland 1955) began formulating the three fundamentals of her lifelong architectural vision while studying at the Delft University of Technology. It was in this crucible of higher learning that she began an architectural practice with two fellow students with the design of a groundbreaking social housing development. As a result, she graduated as architect with cum laude honours in 1984 and officially founded Mecanoo architecten with these same partners.

Henri Cartier-Bresson (22 August 1908 – 3 August 2004) Born in Chanteloup, Seine-et-Marne, Henri Cartier-Bresson developed a strong fascination with painting, particularly with Surrealism. From 1928 to 1929, Cartier-Bresson studied art, literature, and English at the University of Cambridge.

Robert Frank (November 9, 1924 – September 9, 2019) was born in Zurich, Switzerland, and emigrated to the United States in 1947. He is best known for his seminal book The Americans, first published in 1959, which gave rise to a distinctly new form of photobooks, and his experimental film Pull My Daisy, made in 1959. Frank’s other important projects include the books Black White and Things (1954), Lines of My Hand (1972), and the film Cocksucker Blues for the Rolling Stones (1972).
