Villa Mörtnäs, design by Daniel Welham and Tim Ridd, founders of the international Fourfoursixsix study, is divided into three levels. The bottom floor is for cars, keeping the entrance to the house in the first floor, where the bedrooms are placed. The daytime areas are located on the top, which has a bigger height that allows to open large windows on the south façade in order to get sunlight.
Description of the project by Fourfoursixsix
Fourfoursixsix were approached to design a family home in the Stockholm Archipelago.
The building faces the sea to the north, so the design seeks solidity with selected key apertures revealing the view.
The living areas have been placed at the top of the building in order to enhance sunlight, with a southern terrace meeting a steep rock-face to the rear. Key to the design's proportion is the exaggerated floor to ceiling height compared with the bedroom level below, which allows vast amounts of light in, particularly through the large, south-facing, sliding glass doors.
The project was completed in 2014.
