P-M-A-A has designed a collection of pieces that generate different spaces between them by positioning them in one way or another. With them it is possible to project a changing space thanks to the articulation of 4 pieces of mobile furniture.
A staircase, a wardrobe, a platform and a cushion are the collection of furniture chosen by P-M-A-A to create a 30 m² room that evolves over time. The position of these furniture and the resulting combination between them results in different room possibilities in the same space. Each object is different to be able to separate from the set and relate to other objects.

Description of project by P-M-A-A

Wanderings about the room: room versus furniture; furniture as an artifact; an artifact is an object; a set of objects is a collection; a collection of four objects forms a cube and constitutes a piece of furniture.

The commission of creating a room that evolves—or even transforms—over time led us to think of 4 pieces: a staircase, a wardrobe, a platform and a cushion.  These objects form the collection of Lleó. The position of the pieces in the space results in a collection of rooms. Two of them, joined, form a 2x2 m surface occupied by a bed and a bedside table. The third one provides access to the bed and the last one is a cushion where you can lie down to read. This is one of the versions that we could create out of this room, currently occupying a space 30 sqm and 3,5m high.

Each one of the pieces is different in appearance, with the aim of pairing them with other objects, without the need to establish a direct connection amongst the set.

P-M-A-A is an architecture and design studio based in Barcelona derived from the efforts of four team members, Adrián Jurado, Jaime Fernández, Magda Barceló and Albert Guerra. Everything started back in 2012 with the development of projects and teaching activities with a genuine experimental approach within the architecture sector.

As of today, these same principles constitute the origin of their work, which they perform in a space shared with a carpentry workshop and surrounded by an industrial atmosphere. Through this symbiosis, their studio operates as a permanent experimental atelier while allowing them to produce their own pieces, items and structures for each project.

Their work is supported by regarding mock-ups as the synthesis of a project and driven, above all, towards the clarity of each project. By acting as the reference elements on each project, mock-ups allow them to remove those superfluous elements that may have been introduced into the work processes from the architectural space.
