This project, won by public competition in 2005, has consisted the design the design of the square Pere Torrent, the construction of a building of 8.000 m² and their integration into the environment of the Paseo de la Riera.

The proposed program was ambitious: the building has integrated library Lloret de Mar, a multipurpose room, a children's playroom, a function room, an adult school, a day center for the elderly and the offices of the town hall of Social Welfare.

The proposal can be understood as an investigation into the various resources, architectural and urban, which favour, be merge while questioning the indoor and outdoor public space. The form of the building responds to the challenge of bringing the urbanity of the outside square to the inside of the building. The game of levels tries to extend the existing square longitudinally, accompanying its current level until the multipurpose room.

To enhance the public nature of the building, and against other proposals that placed a continuous facade on the square, the project has rotated the building 90 degrees making the highest part not facing the square but to the lateral street.

For Daniel Mòdol, an urbanist used to working with large-scale infrastructure, another way of emphasizing the public nature of the intervention has been to apply the constructive logic of infrastructure where the finish is not contemplated because the value of the work has the function that meets. In this sense, choice of the concrete as an elemental material refers to the search for elementary basic functionality.

Other important decisions have been the largest volume accumulation in the central part, which has allowed the construction of a passage as an interior street, running through the building and showing the continuity of the square while trying to open the view of the layout of the surrounding streets.

The volumetry has combined the evidence of the front to the Pere Torrent square with the search of each of the buildings to seem apparent and meanings from external perception. The order and position of the buildings rising to the northwest side meet the criteria with a correct orientation as the main strategy of sustainability and for others make explicative the final of the building from the square. The uppermost deck, where is the bar at the adult education school and the viewpoint room, covers the patio of the exhibitions relating the set with the existing buildings together. The great void that is created inside the building allows visitors to identify the uses that make up the building and not lose the references of public space. The Casa de la Cultura of Lloret de Mar has been a finalist for the award of Architecture of the Girona region of COAC.
