Richard Rogers,David Chipperfield or Zaha Hadid, have been named on a shortlist of six architects in the running to resurrect the Crystal Palace exhibition hall in south London.

The shortlist in full includes London studios Grimshaw, Haworth Tompkins and Marks Barfield Architects to recreate the "spirit, scale and magnificence" of the iron glass and steel structure that was designed by English architect Paxton to host the Great Exhibition of 1851, but was destroyed by fire in 1936.

This architectural competition is being run for ZhongRong-Arup  by Colander Associates Ltd. It seeks to find a suitable architect who can develop the brief for the proposed new Crystal Palace building.

The selection panel for the competition to design this project evaluated expressions of interest from 38 ideas received for this competition. leading practices from across the world. The shortlist by the developers, ZhongRong Group, the President of the Royal Institute of British Architects, Stephen Hodder, the Chair of New London Architecture, Peter Murray, and members of the Advisory Board for The Crystal Palace project, chaired by London mayor Boris Johnson, is:

David Chipperfield architects, Grimshaw, Haworth Tompkins Architects, Marks Barfield Architects, Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners and a collaboration between Zaha Hadid Architects and Anish Kapoor.
