Annual Architecture Lecture.
Bjarke Ingels.
The Royal Academy welcomes Danish architect, Bjarke Ingels, to deliver the 25th Annual Architecture Lecture. Ingels’ approach to design is to begin with the question, ‘What is the biggest problem – what is the greatest potential?’.

Marking the moment the RA embarks on the most significant transformation of its home for nearly 150 years, this exhibition explores the past and future of its buildings.

Shared Cities: European Prize for Urban Public Space.
A biennial initiative of the Centre of Contemporary Culture of Barcelona (CCCB), the European Prize for Urban Public Space aims to draw attention to the importance of public space in the democratic life of cities. The exhibition showcases the twenty-five most outstanding projects of the 2014 prize.

Installation.
Unexpected Hill.
Visitors to Burlington Gardens will be welcomed this summer by Unexpected Hill, a ceramic urban landscape designed by emerging Istanbul-based practice, SO?. Using tiles as structure rather than decoration, the new ‘hill’ offers a place to rest, explore or play, illustrating how the space between building and pavement can be occupied to change the character of a street.

Cultivating Creative Cities.
London is one of the world’s most creative cities. Creativity has come to define particular areas such as Hoxton, Hackney and in recent years parts of south London, attracting people from all over the world. But how do particular areas – and a city as a whole – become creative? Can creativity be planned for through policy or design? Should we try to protect creative places or do they have their own ‘natural’ lifecycles? Panel includes: Will Alsop RA, Mike Butcher, Munira Mirza, Andy Pratt and Tom Fleming.

The RA LEGO Architecture Challenge.
As part of the London Festival of Architecture, watch four of the UK’s leading architectural practices battle it out to create the most compelling proposal for a ‘creative city’ – from LEGO.

Burlington Gardens Festival.
Creating a temporary forecourt in front of Sir James Pennethorne’s building, there will be new artworks to discover, artists to meet and art to be made. A full programme of free activities inspired by the stories of the building will take place throughout the afternoon including performances, talks, workshops and music.
