Description of project by Garciagerman arquitectos
Looking to the southwest, on the boundary between the new developments of the Pau de Vallecas and an arid plain of gypsum fields, karstic and semi-deserted landscapes, profuse in yellows and browns, we have reminded of the work of the artist Benjamín Palencia and the painters of the Vallecas School in the 1930s: their ability to breathe poetic beauty into the gaze of the stark and dry condition of this plain, which marks the end of the city of Madrid and the beginning of the infinity of La Mancha.
Looking protected towards the landscape and towards these views, looking away from the repetitive urban fabric becomes the initial argument of the project. But this gesture is produced through a green veil, materialized in a light structure that will support deciduous species and provide the necessary shade, cushioning the solitude of the complex on this urban limit.
In typological terms, the development proposes the transformation of a generic row of terraced houses into a set of courtyard houses, based on the integrated development between houses, gardens, and solid partitions between private outdoor spaces. Introducing the atavistic organizational pattern of the courtyard house as an alternative to the anonymous character of new urban developments in Madrid.
