Any contemporary visual artist may enter regardless of nationality. The VIII PILAR CITOLER INTERNATIONAL BIENNIAL PRIZE FOR CONTEMPORARY PHOTOGRAPHY, 2015 will be awarded placing particular emphasis on the entrants’ artistic trajectory and their engagement in current themes in contemporary photography.

The International Prize is organized by the University of Cordoba, in collaboration with the Government of Andalusia (Ministry of Economy, Innovation, Science and Job), for visual artists of our time. An award that valued as the trajectory contemporary as vocation of the creators. The PILAR CITOLER INTERNATIONAL BIENNIAL PRIZE FOR CONTEMPORARY PHOTOGRAPHY, 2015 is threefold and is considered the largest endowment of its kind existing in the art world. A single prize will be awarded consisting of: Fifteen thousand euros. A temporary solo exhibition charting the winning artist’s career will be held over the course of february and march 2018. A monograph (no. 8 in the “el ojo que ves” collection) will be published in 2016-2017 examining the winning artist’s career and body of work. Carefully edited, in this collection have collaborated theorists of contemporary photography (Quentin Bajac, Juan Manuel Bonet, Alejandro Castellote, Kathy Kubicki, Sema d'Acosta, Ramón Esparza, Miguel Fernández-Cid, Javier Hontoria, Alberto Martín, Joan Nogué, Abel H. Pozuelo and Alfonso de la Torre).

The judging panel will convene in November 2015 (once the exact date is determined it will be posted on this website) and will comprise:

Moisés PEREZ DE ALBENIZ (Galería MPA). Vari CARAMÉS (photographer, winner of the VII PILAR CITOLER INTERNATIONAL BIENNIAL PRIZE FOR CONTEMPORARY PHOTOGRAPHY). Pablo JULIÁ (Director of the CAF-Centro Andaluz de Fotografía). Pablo RABASCO (Professor of the History of Photography and Recent Trends in Art at the University of Córdoba). Jesús MICÓ (theorist, critic and curator). Alfonso DE LA TORRE (theorist, critic and curator).

Pilar Citoler (Zaragoza, 1937). A member of the Board of Trustees of Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (MNCARS) since January 2005, the same year she won the ARCO Award to Private Collecting in Spain. In 2006, the University of Cordoba also rewarded her work as a collector. In 2007 she was conferred with the Gold Medal of Merit in Fine Arts by the Spanish Government. In September 2007 she was appointed Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of MNCARS.
