Today Sunday, March 1, Casa de Velázquez open to the public from 16h to 20h. With a multifaceted program, the Casa de Velázquez want to present its activities and missions, putting the focus on the young promises of scientific research and contemporary art.

La Casa de Velázquez, French public institution founded in 1928, annually hosts artists in residence and specialized in cultures and Iberian, Latin American and North African societies researchers.

On March 1, 16h to 20h, visitors can discover the historic site that houses the Casa de Velázquez, in the heart of the City University of Madrid. Strolling through the gardens à la française, or enjoy guided tours, no shortage of opportunities to explore this place, symbol of cultural and artistic cooperation between France and Spain.

Workshops resident artists of l'Académie de France à Madrid is open to the public, as exhibition spaces and meeting, thereby promoting dialogue and rapprochement to contemporary art.

In parallel, a program of informative lectures by some of the researchers from l'École des hautes études et Iberiques hispaniques be held.

La Casa de Velázquez is a privileged space where artists from different geographical and cultural backgrounds develop their creativity, reflect on their craft and aesthetic orientations and share their experiences. L'Académie de France à Madrid is a center that encourages experimentation, without prejudice welcomes diverse individual expressions and participate in promoting the work of its members.

L'Académie de France à Madrid hosts thirteen members, French or foreign, selected in Paris, which two Spanish scholars appointed by the city of Valencia and the Provincial de Zaragoza, respectively add. The artists are engaged in the following disciplines: architecture, art, photography, film, video art, musical composition. Members are chosen based on a detailed artistic project, they are associated closely associated with the scheduled activities (exhibitions, concerts, art fairs ...).

It also provides specific support for stays of one to three months. It also proposes grants in collaboration with other entities, such as Segib, the Ibere-Camargo Foundation or the Fundació Pilar i Joan Miró a Mallorca, making possible residences from one to twelve months. A director of artistic studies assumes guardianship of members and is responsible for the development of artistic policy defined and agreed with the director of the Casa de Velázquez.
