Amidst sleep, hunger and a set of terrible movies, daunting questions drip: I can still remember those colours tinting the daily life of joy, a smell mix that barely in seconds could go from the great scent to its most negative perception. And the clamour, noise cocktail and the melody ... I'm talking about a day in some corner of the many markets that take place in Mexico.
The chance to finish my studies in architecture was what led me to Monterrey, the city of the mountains, near the border with Texas (USA). And here it is where my journey begins. It had been over 5 years since I 'discovered' this country and that what began as an adventure had become the starting point of a trip without return, or at least not for now.
The return to Spain after a year in the North American country was not easy at all. A “new world” had taken my head. A contradiction anyway. I did not have much trouble finding a job in my home town, Santander. I worked as a freelance and for others, and even turned down some offers due to lack of time. Summarizing, I've lived first hand the ‘bubble burst’. All these is gone.
In Madrid I did a Masters in collective Housing which represented the final push that I needed to undertake again. To improve my English and to continue the search for new horizons alternative to grow both personally and professionally, were the reasons for making the leap to London.
A Year in the 'city', did nothing but reinforce my belief that the training continues, the feedback between professionals, mobility and diversification were terms that architects should start dealing with. We must start thinking about covering other fields. To open the circle and to retrain. And the specialization as a solution. But not the one promoted by Bologna, of course not!We will have time to discuss this matter.
Again I was out of work in a city I loved it. But as it was a love story with no happy ending, she didn't like me ...So I had to go over again. Mass mailing of resumes and wait.
Rome is now the city where I live. I guess for a Spanish living in Italy is kind of comfortable. A similar culture and language. And basically we're all a few Romans. However, I am anchored to the past here at the Eternal City, a historic and architectural marvel that is not enough for these times. We continue with the decline of the 'Empire'. Progress engine of change and right now the Mediterranean countries are very far from the splendour of its heyday.
But enough already of pity messages! Dear colleagues: speculation, abuse of power and lack of awareness have taken their toll. In the background we may have what we deserve. So now, action!
Next stop: HOPE.
