Description of the project by Estudio Montevideo + Pablo Dellatorre
The north always served as a reference, the compasses say that, although the world can’t make feet nor tail, the north was put up. Our city did not escape the rule, the first advance party was by colonists conquering the green, mansions in a mountain dominated by a hill that marked the cardinal point. The second generation tried to conquer its own accent, which put the name of the hill, an avenue becomes independent of the city and proposes the north as the center, it works, until the roses go out of fashion.
Today, a new wave arrives, and it takes as its heritage the pride of an area that seeks to recover its magic, the young Tejeda proposes, shows, seduces as only the north know how to do it.
We are this new generation that is going to return his mount to this hill, his last name and his star, we are Monte Tejeda.
The neighborhood in a sector, the street is an icon and we wondered how to work in the sector. What would this new gallery like to be? What can this project do in the neighborhood?
There is where the idea of lung, of refuge, of being public, of square begin to form our main goal, our concept. An architectural composition made of wood textures and boards of a mountain, the original landscape of the area.
We start at the outer limits of the gallery, setting the block like all the houses and businesses that surround it, but also generating a portico entrance to this commercial lung, with its relaxed proposal of bars and gastronomy.
It is a sequence of ordered, stacked, stamped volumes that can be climbed, stepped on, crossed, passed under… and besides they embraced the people welcoming and taking them to the center of this game.
In that way we went into the block, carrying in a strong way what had been a private patio, up to the street. Thus, we turning it into a square in the neighborhood.
Today, the open gallery it is full of life, with the people movement, its scale, its textures that relates to the original mountain and its central patio lived of meetings and recreation.
