The museum project of the Mining Museum of La Unión designed by Rocamora diseño y arquitectura, as part of the museum designed by the architect José Manuel Chacón Bulnes, has been awarded at the XXII edition of the Regional Architecture Awards of the Region of Murcia, at the category of Interior Architecture and Ephemeral Performances.

The Mining Museum of La Unión, history of the mining range in Cartagena-La Unión, highlights the scientific and historical aspects of mining activity in the municipality, and collects the history of mining from ancient times to the last years of activity in the 20th century, showing its importance and influence in the landscape, in the society and the mineralogical values of the Union territory.
The exhibition discourse designed by Rocamora diseño y arquitectura, in a space of almost two thousand square meters, proposes an immersive museography, with historical and scientific rigor, in the history of the Mining Industry and the important activity that has been carried out in this municipality for more than 2000. It also promotes commitment to the environment, recovering the serious events of the Portmán disaster, and places the main focus on the social landscape and the role of women in the productive and transforming process of this society.

The tour begins on the ground floor, with a reception space where the last original winch from the Sierra Minera de La Unión is exposed, with a span of more than 15 meters and over a hundred years old.

The visit continues in the basement. An opening under the historic winch connects both floors and allows staging the rise and fall of the vats that transported water or mineral based on a reliable reconstruction. This floor offers a circular tour through different themes and with a central scenery showing a mining operation. This floor does not have natural light, seeking an immersion in the mining experience, where the general lighting is entrusted to the light of showcases and the display graphics.
