This video introduces Museo Reina Sofía, an expanded museum with various sites and locations (Sabatini Building, Nouvel Building, Palacio de Cristal and Palacio de Velázquez), experiences and audiences. Along with this idea of campus, the collection, exhibitions and public programs are shown as a new form of mediation between the audience and the Museum's program.
In words by Juan Rayos:
"They had in hands the Google Art Project proposal and had realized that they do not had a video presentation of the Museum (one of the things that Google asked them). They had seen the video Madrid Longboard and other things from my Vimeo channel and they thought it might be a good idea commision me. The approach was to make a video that showed the multiple spaces and buildings that make up the Museum, children and teen programs, conferences ... That is, a living museum that works many directions, not just a set of rooms with works hanging. The Google project was delayed and complicated, but we went ahead because it was important for the center to have this video. Also take advantage of the activities surrounding the 20 anniversary to record different activities in a short space of time.
From here, I was free to focus and carry it out. I was working about a month. I worked alone with minimal equipment. Some time-lapse shots were more or less work done at a time very specific. The footage of the rooms were simple, they had to do good works and at the same time show the public space that does not look like a mere reproduction ... many people covered their work, but made it seem soulless little public space. I tried to provide the most dynamic as possible to the camera, with gentle movements that provide pace and variation, but do not bother themselves."
