The Chinese woman through the camera
The Chinese woman through the camera
Women contribute fundamentally to the modernization of contemporary China and the dynamism of their social life. The images of this exhibition are intended to make the viewer much better acquainted with women and China today.
The exhibition shows photographs of well-known women in China, such as Liu Yan, who in June 2012 was the first Chinese astronaut to board the Shenzhou 9 spacecraft and, along with two other astronauts, connected with the Tiangong 1 spacecraft Or tennis player Li Na, who won the Roland Garros tournament in 2011 and the Australian Open in 2014. She has also won the women's singles championship of the Asian Grand Slam, being the female number one in the Asian continent.
Another example is Fu Ying, the first ambassador of a minority ethnic group in China, who has won praise in the diplomatic sector thanks to her personal charm and a modern style when it comes to focusing on foreign relations. Currently, women represent 24% of China's staff.
On the other hand, the exhibition presents Chinese women in the world of culture. As in the Peking Opera, founded more than 200 years ago and considered as one of the highest expressions of Chinese culture (it has been declared Intangible Heritage of Humanity by Unesco). In it the female roles (Dan) were always represented by men but, from the beginning of the century, those began to be interpreted by women. Today, the best Chinese actresses are the ones who take care of the same thing.
The exhibition wants to reflect other aspects of Chinese society where women always have an important role. For example, in the education system, where women represent 53% of primary school teachers.
The sample covers the wide range of daily life of women in China, a country that, let's not forget, is the size of a real continent. The chambers have also accompanied the women who practice dancing in the squares of China or have traveled to the steppes of Mongolia where they lead a more traditional life.
