Today it was presented in Intermediae Matadero, the "Los Madriles" mapping-project * which, like an Atlas, makes visible and adds value to Madrid's neighborhood initiatives. The hundred spaces that are highlighted on the map, and those who may be in their digital version, show the existence of a vibrant but invisible city, but above all, intended to put in value the power of a critical and active citizenship that has created new spaces with possibilities, through self-management and participation.
* You can find the large format version of the map in Intermediae Matadero, a space that also hosts open meetings on active citizenship and other ways of making city. If you need more information write to: LOSMADRILES@AAVVMADRID.ORG or visit the website of INTERMEDIAE.
THE MADRILES / Atlas of neighborhood initiatives, is an initiative of.-
Intermediae, the Regional Federation of Neighbourhood Associations of Madrid (FRAVM), Zuloark + Lys Villalba, Vivero de Iniciativas Ciudadanas [VIC], Paisaje Transversal and Todo por la Praxis.
There are thousands of neighbors and residents working collectively to build a more livable, sustainable, inclusive and participatory city. Before them, others did the same demanding decent houses, streets without mud, common spaces and basic services. Los Madriles / Neighborhood Initiative Atlas is a map of Madrid and neighborhood initiatives.
The desire to do this mapping of autonomous actions made by the residents of Madrid, arises from the need to make visible the exceptional spaces built by the citizens. The power of the mapped projects, the richness of a collection of spaces that speak for themselves might be enough, but we focus on the opportunity that generates a map as an opener and encounter tool.
