The project already has 630 MW of power and, to date, has built 152 wind turbines of the 175 planned in the first phase of construction.
When the second phase is completed, will have a total capacity of 870 MW of installed capacity and as owner "with 630 MW installed, London Array will be the first of a new generation of large offshore wind farms." The first phase of the project developed is expected to be completed in late 2012, occupying 90 square kilometers and incorporating 175 turbines with a combined capacity of 639 MW.
London Array will be the worlds largest offshore wind farm when built. Construction on the first 630MW phase has now started; further build on Phase two is dependent upon demonstrating that the population of Red Throated Divers that winter in the Thames Estuary is not affected by the wind farm.
Phase One:
• 630MW -- enough to supply around 480,000 homes
• 175 turbines
• Two offshore substations
• One onshore substation
• Four export cables
• 210km of array cable
• 2.2bn Euro investment
