Landnemar by Álvaro Sánchez-Montañés

From the 12nd of January to the 28th of March, espaciofoto gallery (Viriato St., 53. Madrid) houses the photographic exhibition "Landnemar" by  Álvaro Sánchez-Montañés (Madrid, 1973), with twenty images in colour in which the author transited through a country of icy lands, empty spaces and minimalist architecture created to barren landscapes.

Through his images we participate as distant witnesses from an untameable and hostile space to which its settlers, as first colonists, surrender and give themselves up. A new and inimaginable relationship between culture and landscape for the western urbanite appears, invitating us to reflexione about the human necessity of domaining Nature.

The whole serie, composed by more than 60 images, has been taken during four years in boreal Icelandic lands and has been awarded with the First Prize of AENA Foundation of Photography 2012, besides having been finalist from prizes as Purificación García 2012, Pilar Citorel 2011 and Hasselblad Masters 2011.

Espaciofoto gallery.-

It begin its activity in 2010 with the philosophy of creating an approach between art photography and public, allowing the achievement of author's works in limited editions, numered and certificated with an afforable prize. From 2012 espaciofoto gallery's project evolves to new proposals with a program of individual exhibitions and extending as well its presence in art fairs. In that sense, highlight that the gallery represents photographers as Eduardo Momeñe, Luis Baylón, Jessica Lange, Miguel Bergasa, Álvaro Sánchez-Montañés, Sofía Santaclara, José María Díaz-Maroto, Emilio Pemjean and José Ramón Bas.

Álvaro Sánchez-Montañés is aeronautic engineer at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. Autodidact in his artistic formation.
