The exhibition about the work of "Joaquín Vaquero Palacios. The beauty of the huge. Asturias, 1954-1980." in five Asturian power plants conceived as total works of art will open the 2018 program on 15 February, curated by Joaquín Vaquero Ibáñez and organized by the ICO Foundation, with the sponsorship of the EDP Foundation .
Joaquín Vaquero Palacios (Oviedo, 1900-Madrid, 1998) architect, painter and sculptor, was a total creator who approached the creative process globally. This exhibition focuses on the project that, fruit of thirty years of collaboration with Hidroeléctrica del Cantábrico (currently part of the EDP Group), materialized in five Asturian power plants conceived as total works of art.
The exhibition allows to discover the artistic work realized by Vaquero Palacios in the power plants of Salime (1945-1955) -one of the best examples of Spanish industrial architecture ascribed to the Modern Movement-, Miranda (1956-62), Proaza (1964-68) ), Aboño (1969-1980) and Tanes (1980).
In the power stations of Salime (1945-1955), Miranda (1956-62), Proaza (1964-68), Aboño (1969-1980) and Tanes (1980) he made murals, sculptures, furniture, industrial design - alone or with the collaboration of his son, Joaquín Vaquero Turcios - and, in some cases, even architecture. It is a work of great interest although very little diffused and known by the public.
The exhibition is curated by the architect Joaquín Vaquero Ibáñez, produced by the ICO Foundation and the catalog published in collaboration with TSU Books.
The ICO Museum presents "Joaquín Vaquero Palacios. The beauty of the huge. Asturias, 1954-1980." Vaquero´exhibition allows us to discover one of the most outstanding examples of 20th century Spanish industrial heritage.
