The conception of the piece has interesting references ranging from Paul Klee to Italio Calvino, and represents the hypnotic power of architecture in its intimate relationship with the dynamism of urban life.
"We wanted to recreate an object capable of evoking a simple but global image of architecture. We play with the abstract form of a house, conceived from the idea of the game of stacking pieces, recovering to a certain extent the child that we have inside; who plays, who tests, who has fun without fear, and whose creativity is so necessary and at the same time so difficult to maintain in our profession. We hope that the winners of the ARCHITECTURE Awards enjoy TOITS and remember that creative and simple condition of the game."
In the awards, the jury awarded SPECIAL MENTIONS to the finalist proposals “The proportion of success”, by Javier Pérez de Amezaga Tomás and Gerardo Pérez de Amezaga Tomás; and «KAFKA», by the architect Pablo Moreno Mansilla.

The gabled roof house appears in our collective unconscious as an atavistic form, an abstract idea formed by five lines that represent primitive architecture. This drawing inspired artists and architects from the beginning of the 20th century such as Paul Klee, Lyonel Feininger or Peder Vilhelm Jensen-Klint, who introduced it in their works in an abstract way, composing streets or grouping them giving shape to contemporary cathedrals. All of them beat the hypnotic power of architecture in its intimate relationship with the agitation of life in cities.
The Toits proposal is inspired by the addition of these ancestral forms to build an intertwined fabric of the stone architecture. The final piece is made up of two interlocking volumes, formed by the repetition and superimposition of three rows of houses, each with different silhouettes and heights. These two halves can be arranged in various ways: parallel, in a row or one on top of the other leaning on the four highest vertices, evoking in its unexpected compositions the invisible cities of Italo Calvino.
The two pieces end up fitting one into the other creating a 14x14x7 cm prism. Its front elevations formalize a white square with different triangular cavities running through it, while on its sides they appear as a carved rectangle with oblique notches in a 2:1 ratio.
The entire geometry of the piece is based on the triangle formed by the A of architects of the CSCAE logo, inspired by the compass of the master stonemasons. But at the same time, the overlapping and addition of these Aes can be interpreted as a set of houses, whose roofs -Toits- materialize the tectonic idea of our sculpture. The two sculptures that makeup Toits and that together weigh 3.10 Kg, will be carved with a 5-axis milling machine on a Compac brand Volcano Fog Obsidian block with a glacé finish.
