Beaten Down by Sharon van Etten. Black and white in the desert

Beaten down is the music video for Sharon van Etten's song which is about making life-changing choices and meditates on love, patience and empathy.

The black and white video, directed by Nicky and Juliana Giraffe, was shot in the Californian desert and features the twin dancing duo Allison and Veronica Huber.

The protagonist of this video is the mise-en-scéne, where the dancers externalize the connection and balance that the singer wants to express in the lyrics of her song.

According to the filmmakers: "Our goal was to create a striking and psychedelic video set in the California desert, a welcoming of Sharonís next chapter here. Upon hearing the song, our minds automatically drifted into stark black and white, fever dreams, dark silhouettes contrasted against a barren desert landscape. Our intention was to give Sharonís song and performance space to breathe and echo. It was important to us that the dancers were strongly connected and weíre so lucky to have worked with the talented Huber Twins on this project."
