The Proaza hydroelectric plant, in Asturias, designed by Joaquín Vaquero Palacios, one of the best examples of the Spanish industrial heritage of the 20th century, celebrates half a century of life. To celebrate this special anniversary, a commemorative event was held, attended by different authorities: the President of the Principality of Asturias, Javier Fernández; the president of EDP Spain, Manuel Menéndez; the CEO of EDP Spain, Rui Teixeira; and the Minister of Employment, Industry and Tourism of the Principado de Asturia, Isaac Pola.
The event was attended by Joaquín Vaquero Ibáñez, grandson of the creator of the installation, architect and curator of the exhibition that, on the occasion of the anniversary, was inaugurated in the center itself and summarizes the history of the first 50 years of Proaza, as well as as the trajectory of its creator.

During the celebration, attendees were able to visit the facilities of the plant. Later, on one of its exterior facades, a video mapping designed by Joaquín Vaquero Ibáñez was projected, with images of the construction and commissioning of the plant.

Inaugurated in 1968 and located on the right bank of the Trubia river, the Proaza hydroelectric plant has operated, since its commissioning, more than 248,000 hours and generated more than 4,200 GWh, the equivalent to the annual consumption of more than one million homes. . 1979 was the year of greatest production, when the plant generated 124 GWh.
