Based on the search for the purely indispensable and abstraction, estudio DIIR intervenes in a unique space located at Calle Velázquez 45, in Madrid, for MIM, a store specialized in women's footwear whose challenge is to display the product in a amazing.

The longitudinal nature of the space represents a starting point from which two exhibition strategies are proposed that seek to emphasize the concept of route, resulting in a piece understood as a whole whose neutral character exalts the product it exhibits.
Through two gestures of a firm and radical nature, estudio DIIR proposes an exhibition strategy that on the one hand, and through a curved geometry, hides the guts of the store and guides the user towards the interior, and on the other hand, poses the opportunity to eventually convert the space into a parade by creating a grandstand that runs through the entire exhibition area, turning it into an amphitheater.

The project is based on a unique use of materials and the contrast they propose, where the steel joins, which dominates the scene, offering a distorted image and generating surprise in the user from its reflections and the curved shape it generates, and a continuous and homogeneous pavement that rises and is staggered in the form of stands, giving continuity to the space and making the product displayed on it stand out.

Project description by estudio DIIR

The abstraction and the search for the purely essential finds its maximum expression in this project. MIM is a store specializing in women's footwear whose big goal is to show the product in a surprising way. This challenge, together with the uniqueness of the proposed space, turns this intervention into a set of decisions where experimentation plays a decisive role.

The need to create a recognizable path is once again in the foreground. Although the longitudinality of the space is perceived as an unfavorable aspect, the project is designed to emphasize and reinforce this fact. An unusual exhibition strategy is proposed through two strong and radical gestures. On the one hand, an imposing steel sheet acquires a curved geometry and fulfills a double function: it hides the private areas of the store and guides the user towards the back of the space. On the other hand, a longitudinal staircase runs along the entire exhibition area. While on a day-to- day basis they display products, they can eventually become an amphitheater from which customers can enjoy an improvised fashion parade. At the back of the space, the project ends with a fitting room area where the presence of geometry is evident. A semicircle made of steel encloses two rooms and frees a space that does not go unnoticed.

The sobriety of the described actions is supported by a singular use of materials. Steel takes on a considerable role in the conception of the space. The large curve dominates the scene and, thanks to its reflections, offers a distorted image that generates surprise in the user. In contrast to this, a continuous and homogeneous pavement is raised and staggered to form the grandstand. In this way, the whole piece is understood as a whole and, thanks to its neutral character, manages to highlight the product displayed on it.

estudio DIIR is an architecture firm based in Madrid founded in 2018 by David Meana, Ignacio Navarro, Iñigo Palazón and Ricardo Fernández, all of them architects from the Madrid School of Architecture (ETSAM), complemented their training with international experiences in the United States, Sweden, France, China or India. This opportunity has given them an open perspective that they now apply in each of their innovative works.

Their projects, marked by a strong strategic and conceptual positioning, have received national and international recognition. Facing projects of multiple scales has allowed them to develop a practice that explores infinite ways to achieve uniqueness through sensitivity and rigor. The various public projects won at the beginning of their journey - some of them currently under construction - are combined with private commissions of all kinds. The achievement of this variety of works has allowed the studio to be awarded by the COAM as an emerging studio in several consecutive years.

Their work has received national and international recognition. In 2018, he was awarded first prize for the construction of a new cultural centre in Los Molinos (Madrid). At the beginning of 2019, he won first prize for the landscaping of Villamayor de Gállego (Zaragoza). And in 2020, he won first prize for the construction of the social-health centre in Plasencia (Cáceres). In addition, he was recently selected among five international finalists to carry out the Museum of Archaeology and Prehistory in Santander.

The strategic and conceptual positioning developed in the various design competitions in which he has been awarded is transferred to domestic spaces. From offices and shops to renovations and homes, estudio DIIR explores various ways to achieve uniqueness through innovation and rigour.

DIIR's philosophy is a dialogue between beauty and life experience. They conceive and transform spaces as places in constant interaction with people's life experience, influencing their daily lives and the quality of their existence. DIIR is a dialogue between rigor and sensitivity. The perseverance and precision with which we approach each project coexists with the delicacy to achieve solutions that are guided by the search for uniqueness. DIIR is a dialogue between timelessness and resonance. Their work moves away from trends and fashions with the aim of achieving spaces that endure over time and that, in turn, have the capacity to generate an impact on those who interact with them.
