The Spanish studio delaVegaCanolasso has designed a new house in collaboration with tini® in Menorca, a Spanish island famous for its beaches. The house sits high on a hillside surrounded by Menorcan pines and ullastres with privileged views of the Mediterranean.

The Mediterranean climate and the location were key to the design of the project. The Mediterranean climate, which is hot in summer, requires the design to create shadows that allow for coolness, while the views from the top of the hillside invite the creation of exterior routes and access walkways.
The architectural studio delaVegaCanolasso used two modules of 3 x 9.8 m placed in a T-shape for the house in Menorca so that the different uses can be distributed according to the degree of privacy and the optimal orientation for each space.

The common areas, living-dining-kitchen, are facing south, taking advantage of the sea views, while the private area, the bedrooms, are facing east, which allows them to take advantage of the sunrise light. This configuration also allows them to keep all the existing trees incorporating them into the paths.

On the terrace, there is a reed pergola that, together with the thread curtains on the access doors, allows you to enjoy a cool outdoor space sheltered from the sun.

Project description by delaVegaCanolasso

This tini® is a large terrace, an interior space completely connected to the views.

Located on top of a hillside, surrounded by pine trees and Menorcan ullastres, this house offers privileged views of the Mediterranean. The beauty of the place invited us to create an unusual configuration, with exterior connections and access walkways, which enhance the contact of the house with its surroundings.

Wisley, the uses are separated according to their degree of privacy and taking advantage of the best orientations for each space. The 3x9.8m modules are arranged in a T shape so that the common areas, living-dining room-kitchen are open to the sea views and the south orientation, while the bedrooms face east, and enjoy the pleasant light of dawn. In addition, this configuration respects all existing trees and incorporates them into the access routes.

In the Mediterranean climate it is important to create shadows where you can stay cool, and we have done so in this project, adding different filters such as the reed pergola or the string curtains that sway in the north wind. A place to be cool and sheltered from the sun.
