9 h (nainawasu) is a new capsule hotel that offers luxury in a minimum living space. The 9 h capsule hotel and all amenities were designed by Fumie Shibata of Design Studio S, which she founded in 1994. With her team, she defined the elements necessary for a "minimal transit space" in big cities in Japan.

The first hotel will opened in december 2009, located in Shimogyo-ku, Kyoto(Japan), two minutes walk from Kawaramachi Station. The building itself will be 9 stories tall, will host 125 capsules, locker rooms, showers, and a lounge.

Fumie Shibata, after graduating from Musashino Art University established her own studio, Design Studio S in 1994. With a strong focus on industrial design, she is active in a wide range of areas, from designing electronics and healthcare products to acting as creative director for a hotel. Her works have received tremendous acclaim worldwide, winning numerous awards, including the Mainichi Design Award, the Good Design Gold Award, the JCD Grand Award, the iF Gold Award, the DFA Grand Award, Gold Award and the Special Award for Culture and the red dot design award. She works as professor of Musashino Art University from 2014. She has also published the monograph "Forms within Forms".
