Nolla is Robin Falck's response to the Finland renewable energy company Neste when he was asked to participate in their Journey to Zero campaign. They wanted to promote their new fossil-free products, sustainable options in the Finland market and together they found a way to discuss the subject: summer houses or "kesämökki", which are the cornerstone of Finland's culture.
The cabin functions entirely on renewable energy and excludes most modern commodities. The cabin itself is a compact and entirely mobile 10 m² dwelling, that can be assembled, dissembled and transported without any heavy machinery. It demonstrates a low-impact daily life, that is based on self-sufficiency and renewable solutions – thus generating minimal to no emissions.
Robin set out to design a more sustainable cabin for that culture. A small summer cottage concept defying the current norm, leaving the smallest possible footprint, with no permanent concrete base. The energy comes from the solar panels and the kitchen runs on renewable diesel made from waste. For the campaign, it was built on the small island outside the centre of Helsinki, Vallisaari. During August, the cabin was available for rental through Airbnb and sold out in the first 2 hours. The campaign was a success and had great coverage. Now it is built again, this time in Spain, for the Concentrico festival.
