Cino Zucchi Architetti proposed a bold vision articulated in a series of specific interventions, an ‘acupuncture’ in the body of the city to amplify the character of parts, a new place that facilitates dialogue among diverse audiences.
The goal of the project is to regenerate the Cavallerizza by reinterpreting the existing architecture and by combining urban experience with a collective commitment to nature.
The redesign of the public realm is activated by simple gestures. Stone benches, lighting elements, trees, and semicircular canopies in oxidized bronze identifying entrances. A small new square is created between the Ala del Mosca and the Pagliere to connect them and act as a vestibule to the Giardini Reali, creating a transition between the ‘concave’ space among the buildings and the green paths under the trees.

"The portions of new architecture inserted in the Cavallerizza do not attempt to mimic the historical forms of the existing one, neither do they fall into an easy ‘poetics of dissonance’ only to exhibit its own discontinuity with respect to them. They are in ideal continuity with a ‘Turin Modern’ both experimental and sophisticated, capable of not artificially opposing the concepts of ‘innovation’ and ‘tradition’, but rather creating a dialogue between the vision of a better future and the environmental qualities of the historic city."

The jury also considered particularly interesting the proposal of the French studio Lacaton and Vassal, because of the philosophical approach and the guidelines developed with respect to the redevelopment of the Teatro della Cavallerizza Alfieriana, as well as the ability to combine architectural composition, sustainability, social activities and culture.
The committee hopes that these two proposals can find a meeting point, particularly as regards the use of public spaces. The complexity of the intervention, in fact, suggested involving more experiences and skills.
