Esther Ferrer. was born in San Sebastián, Basque Country (Spain) on December 19, 1937. She is known for being one of the best Spanish artists of her time, standing out in “performance art”.
In collaboration with the painter and filmmaker José Antonio Sistiaga, they inaugurated the first Free Expression Workshop, which would be the origin of the rest of the performer's artistic works. Years later, in 1967, he joined the avant-garde musical group ZAJ, where he met artists from various specialties: poets, painters, musicians or sculptors. From his experience at the ZAJ, he began a research process regarding the multidisciplinarity of art as a whole, thus giving rise to performative works. Esther takes up the creation of plastic works combined with photographs, installations, or paintings inspired by prime numbers and the number Pi. Following this artistic line, Esther Ferrer's works are characterized by being part of the minimalist and conceptual trend of the 1960s with a tireless search for feminist references.
Esther Ferrer. has managed to develop as an artist both in Spain and abroad: Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Belgium, France, Denmark, Norway, England, Belgium, Holland, Poland, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Bulgaria, England, United States, Canada, Mexico, Cuba, Brazil, Thailand, Japan, Korea or Palestine.
Also, his works have been enjoyed in different art galleries in Spain, France (Paris), Germany or Mexico. Like his presentations at the university level, having great relevance in Spain and other countries such as France or Canada.
The Spanish performer has achieved the highest national and international recognitions, such as the National Prize for Plastic Arts (2008), the Gure Prize of the Basque Government (2012), the Women in Visual Arts Prize (MAV) (2014), the Marie Claire Prize for l’Art Contemporain (2014) and the Velázquez Prize (2014), the latter for his great career in Latin American countries.
