Como parte de su ciclo conferencias Spring 2011 Open Lecture, el Instituto de Arquitectura de Barcelona presenta un nuevo ciclo centrado en las prácticas contemporáneas de la arquitectura: Panorama. Partiendo del tradicional formato de la conferencia, cada sesión de la serie contará con cuatro presentaciones cortas y un debate posterior. Abstenerse de realizar cualquier tipo de categorización geográfica o generacional. El ciclo Panorama ofrecerá apuntes dinámicos...espoletas de prácticas arquitectónicas y mostrará modos de operar únicos acerca del diseño y la construcción. El ciclo Panorama se realizará dos veces por año, lo que hace de la serie sea una característica habitual de cada ciclo BIArch Open Lecture.

Panorama 1 será un escaparate de las siguientes formas de trabajo:

JOSÉ MARÍA SÁNCHEZ GARCÍA is Associate Projects Professor at the Escuela de Arquitectura de Madrid, where he received his degree in Architecture in 2002. He was awarded an Architectural Review Emerging Architecture award in 2009 and was chosen as one of 10 emerging international practices by the Architectural Record's Design Vanguard the same year. He received a Special Mention in the 2010 FAD Architecture awards and was selected for a VII Iberoamerican Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism, as well as the X Spanish Architecture Biennial. His work has been published extensively in magazines such as 2G, AV, Architectural Record, Architectural Review, Space, and Azure; and exhibited in the CISMEF09 in Guanzhou, China; the Jóvenes Arquitectos de España exhibition in New York and Paris; the 100% Madrid traveling exhibition, the RIBA in London, and the "35 + Spanish Architecture Exhibition, "in Hannover and in Izmir, among others.

CADAVAL & SOLÀ-MORALES was founded in New York City in 2003 and is now based in both Barcelona and Mexico City. The studio incorporates research and development into their design process, under the mandate of creating intelligent design solutions at many different scales. With built projects in the United States, Spain and Mexico, the studio has won numerous awards including the prestigious Bauwelt Prize (Munich 2009), the Young Architects Prize from the Catalan Institute of Architects (Barcelona 2008), the Design Vanguard Award (New York 2008) and the silver medal of the XI Mexican Architecture Biennale (Mexico 2010). Their work has been selected for The IX Spanish Biennale of Architecture, the Biennale Barbara Capocchin in Italy, and the FAD prize exhibition, among others. In addition to their professional practice Eduardo Cadaval and Clara Solà-Morales are associate professors of Architecture and Urban design at Barcelona and Tarragona schools of Architecture respectively and at Barcelona Institute of Architecture. They have acted as visiting design critics at such universities as Harvard, Yale and The University of Pennsylvania.

SANTI ORTEU (op|team) is an architect based in Barcelona, where he co-founded the Op|Team group with Gloria Piferrer and Xavier Farré. He obtained his degree from the Escuela de Arquitectura de la Universidad de Navarra. After collaborating with Josep Benedito on the development of university facilities, his work has focused on design and construction of public buildings and facilities. He has been recipient of a Premi d’Arquitectura de Girona 2001 award (for the l’IES de Castelló d’Empúries project) and his work has been selected in two editions of the FAD prizes. Orteu’s archival facilities, such as his design for the Archivo Nacional de Catalunya, the Archivos Históricos de Lleida y Girona and the Archivo Comarcal de l’Alt Urgell have been widely lauded and exhibited.


ARQUITECTURIA is a firm devoted to architecture, design and urbanism. Led by Josep Camps and Olga Felip, Arquitectura has worked on cultural, educational, health and housing projects in both public and private sectors. The firm has received several awards, including the Young Architect of the Year Award of The Leading European Architectural Forum Awards 2010, and AJAC Young Architects Award from the Association of Architects of Catalonia, and a mention in the Architectural Review’s Emerging Architecture awards.  Arquitecturia was also included in the European Centre of Architecture and The Chicago Atheneum’s 2010 40 Under 40 Awards list. Their work has appeared in Architectural Review, a + a-China magazine, db Deutsche Berlin, Detail, ON Diseño, and Arquitectura Viva among others.

These four practices will be introduced by Jorge García de la Cámara, architect from the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Sevilla, Master's in Metropolis in Architecture and Urban Culture by the Centre de Cultura Contempoània de Barcelona and the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, where he also did a Master's in Theory and History and is currently writing his doctorate. He was deputy director and full professor of the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura at the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya between 2005 and 2008. Academic Director at the Barcelona Institute of Architecture between 2008 and 2009, and Director of BIArch since 2010.
