It was 1983 when the Milanese architect and designer Alessandro Mendini invited ten colleagues to participate in the show Tea & Coffee Piazza with the objective being to create a tea set for the Italian brand Alessi. This unusual meeting, that marked the decade and then became a promotional model as it was copied by many other companies, had one unexpected result: an unknown 42 years old Catalan designed a tea set that Alessi decided to produce and sell as a complete set. It was then that Mendini told Oscar Tusquets that he had become "one of the 11 best architects in the world, simply by designing a tea set".

Oronda tea set (tray, milk, teapot and sugar bowl) won the Silver Delta in 1986 and is one of the objects that the Disseny Hub Barcelona has loaned to the exhibition "Delta Awards: 50 years of Design 1960-2010", that you can visit at the Palau Robert until next June. The exhibition wants to pay tribute to the Spanish industrial design and is made possible thanks to the collaboration between the Museum of Decorative Arts - DHUB and the ADI-FAD (Industrial Association for the Promotion of Design of Decorative Arts.)

Delta Prizes: 50 years with design 1960-2010.
