Architects from 40 countries have been submitted to the MOLEWA International Competition (Mount Lu Estate of World Architecture) for the Chinese city of Ruichang, it has a population of 430,000 and is situated on the south shore of the Yangtze River, about 50 kilometers of the great Bo Yang lake. Rivaling Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong, this 'Fourth Pole' is seen as China's new economic and cultural engine as its economy settles on a more balanced and sustainable state,
This competition, organized by Creativersal and UIA, looks for proposals that seek to achieve tangible results in the following value points: a practical way to new urbanization which focuses on the maximization of happiness and sustainability, and defines a new path of socioeconomic development, a permanent exhibition and celebration of world architecture as a tourist attraction and a conduit for architectural innovation, particularly in sustainable design.
In the announcement of the competition the international jury remarked “after a thorough analysis of both masterplan and the projects, we have identified a group of architectural projects which deserve recognition and meet the conditions of the competition objectives.” The Hua Yan Group and different levels of governments involved in the project are likewise very positive about the outcome of the competition.
'The collective quality of the designs is world class plus one, in my opinion, not only this is a celebration of architectural excellence, but also the official launch of an innovative model of new urbanization in China.' Mr. XuFeng, Chairman of Hua Yan.
