Monday, May 23 th. 19.00 h. Old Tabacalera building. C/ Embajadores 53, Madrid
A unique cultural event in Europe that is born of interest in merging different media —film-building research, documentary, video art and multimedia installation—, and has the presence of important artists, filmmakers and thinkers, proposing an unprecedented international programming which brings together 150 works from over 40 countries.
The program will include 24 sessions of screenings, an exhibition of video and multimedia, as well as a series of round tables. The sessions are composed of special screenings of O Nosso Homem de Pedro Costa, Film Socialisme of Jean-Luc Godard, Finisterrae by Sergio Caballero and Night Blue by Ange Leccia, as well as releases of Ken Jacobs, Knut Asdam, Matthias Müller and Liu Wei.
The exhibition will focus on the architecture and our everyday spaces, as metaphors for contemporary society, through the works of Gordon Matta Clark, Peter Downsbrough, Didier Fiuza Faustino, Hans Op de Beeck and Carlos Irijalba. And the round tables aim to bring together, in the same space, different personalities and representatives of the art scene, directors of art museums, curators, artists and distributors, who will meet to reflect on culture and contemporary art.
Les Rencontres Internationales goes far away its annual programming. It is an international forum for Europe: the Pompidou Centre and the Palais de Tokyo, and the Haus der Kulturen der Welt. The Madrid edition of the festival has the support of the Ministry of Culture, and the collaboration of the Museo Nacional de Arte Reina Sofía and Filmoteca Nacional. In the link at the bottom of this page please you will find the full schedule.
