Enorme Studio designed a new spatial organization system for the Amparo Lavapiés housing, located in the neighborhood of the same name, in Madrid, Spain.

Amparo Lavapiés, a building in which BEYOME is used, a system of spatial organization, in which using furniture and mobile dividing systems the spaces are transformed, and give the possibility of having in a reduced dwelling, the number of situations that we could find in a larger one.
Enorme Studio proposes the creation of various mobile systems, within each home, in which by moving these volumes, which in turn can house different interior openings with built-in folding furniture, a multitude of situations can be created in a very small space. Moreover, it can be customized in such a way that each client chooses what situations or dedicated spaces they want to have, how, and where.

After the time of the pandemic that has affected the population, interior spaces are being reconsidered, especially in cities, where the population density is higher and the size of the houses is smaller. That is why BEYOME proposes this system, to provide a solution to the habitability of small dwellings, giving the possibility of housing a greater number of options, moving, rotating, and deploying these mobile structures.

Description of project by Enorme Estudio

BEYOME is a flexible housing system that adapts to every need of use of space of its inhabitants.

Thanks to its design, technology, and its robotic furniture system, BEYOME allows, in a flat like this one, to double the surface area of the home from 45 sqm useful to 90 sqm functional.

A concept designed to improve the habitability of homes of less than 65 sqm, thanks to technology and architectural innovation.

In Spain alone, more than 30% of homes are below this size.

BEYOME proposes sustainable housing that adapts to each stage and moment of life through re-configurable spaces that improve the rigid traditional housing from the point of view of habitability, energy efficiency, accessibility between spaces, and work-life balance.

The pandemic has highlighted the need for a radical change in housing. Situations such as family cohabitation with teleworking, which in many cases has been definitively implemented, reflect the fact that the current concept of housing is not very flexible and adaptable to change.

BEYOME responds to the growing demand to live, work and even enjoy in the same space.

The flat has two bedrooms, one of them with a dressing room, two closed work or study areas, a living room, a bathroom and a kitchen of up to 30 sqm All of this is equipped with two mobile walls, which allow the option of turning and unfolding all the rooms of the house with a simple and comfortable gesture, depending on the needs of the moment. In addition, these walls are equipped with fold-out bed systems, dining or work tables, and various storage equipment and shelving.

"Just as our lives change, the home changes with us. It is not static.

"The real change is that the house adapts to our needs and not the other way around".

"Houses will no longer have one or two bedrooms but infinite situations".

"Living in a 70 sqm house with the spatial features of a 120 sqm house".

"Every square meter of your home is gold - no more empty rooms!"

"Our cities need prosperous but compact dwellings, which amplify our life and senses, consuming fewer resources and optimizing space to the maximum."

BEYOME, whose name comes from the contraction of "Beyond Home", aims to go beyond the traditional dwelling to become a flexible home adapted to our contemporary lifestyle.

ENORME Studio is the evolution of three co-founders of PKMN Architectures, they're Carmelo Rodríguez, Rocío Pina and David Pérez. After having collaborated for ten years on more than one hundred projects they've just started with a new shared initiative that keeps the same radical approach to architecture. They design and build ARCHITECTURE PROJECTS based on industrial systems and typological innovation.

They're specialists in mobile systems design applied to housing, office design and retail. They have changed the traditional concept of room in architecture, creating spaces that are easily converted through simple gestures. They design and perform participation dynamics in the domain of city construction through their creative services platform CIUDAD CREA CIUDAD and the creation of CITIZENSHIP BRAND IDENTITIES. Their aim is to foster alternative ways to examine urban issues and to motivate the creation of a proactive citizen culture. They design and apply TACTICAL URBANISM tools that transfer teamwork strategies and collective thinking dynamics into public and private space design and management. Their aim is to give the city back to citizens as an emotional, plural and relational space.
