Mariela Apollonio presents on Friday November 14, at Kir Royal Gallery in Valencia an exhibition that shows us for the first time a selection of photographs from her professional architecture file.

Mariela Apollonio was one of those selected in our series "10 Fundamental Photographers. On site". We launched an article about her work, few months ago. Now she presents us a more personal view of its work, an opportunity to learn more about this excellent photographer.

This exhibition brings together a selection of my personal archive of architecture photography developed during the past six years. All the photographs are professional architectural orders and are part of a group of images that tell about an architectural project or a phase of its development.

This selection of the archive is grouped into eight categories. Each category contains a selection of images organized by emotional and visual affinities or related to the memory proximities. Memories, fragilities, ephemeral, poetry, vacuum, ideas, mise-en-scene and fictions are a mind map and a subjective way to generate a route through my photo archive.

Photographic Archive (re)defines architectural photography as a powerful tool, self-conscious of the strength of this medium, an effective instrument for directing ideas and emotions, able to transform and suggest new and special relationships with reality. Therefore, Photographic Archive is, first of all, a definition."

More information

Mariela Apollonio (Valencia) develops her professional work in the field of architectural photography since 2008 as Fotógrafa de arquitectura. She has been merging her artistic vision with her professional work from the very beginning of her career. This particular approach has influenced her way of understanding architectural photography assuming that this profession defines a way of thinking that sheds some sense of reality. Without compromising the author's vision, she also believes that it's impossible not to interpret architecture from subjectivity and thought.

She studied Fine Arts at the Polytechnic University of Valencia (Spain), where she also completed a Master of Photography, Art and Technique. She has been a guest professor in the Master of Artistic Production in the same University.

Mariela has worked for several architectural offices in Spain, Germany and Italy, and her work has been published worldwide in specialized journals and exhibited in both national and international galleries and art fairs. Fotógrafa de arquitectura lives and works halfway between Valencia and Berlin.
