The architecture studio, Atelier PNG, was the winner of a competition in August 2015 to build a high mountain technical center, with a transfer dock, in the town of Villard de Lans, in the Vercors Regional Natural Park, near Grenoble, south of France.
This project completes the facilities developed on the Vercors plateau, an ecological site created in a few years to manage resources and waste in a sustainable and proper way.

Atelier PNG, led by Pedro Petit, Nicolas Debicki, Grichka Martinetti, designed a project whose program includes a transfer dock for waste treatment, offices, workshops and garages. A 100% timber construction in Vercors, that is, 186 m³ of solid wood sawn, cut and transformed directly on the plateau.
A main volume, and technical, service and domestic volumes, the order also requested to enhance it with a common resource: wood from communal forests. Situated on the edge, as close to the stumps as possible, the construction is designed, sized, according to the locally available species, tools and knowledge, on the plateau.
The project was built with the material of the area, becoming an great example of the knowledge of the products worked in the environment.

On the Vercors plateau, an eco-site was created to sustainably manage and exploit local resources and waste.
The main activity on this remote valley is related to silviculture. The new equipment is an additional tool, a facility expected to improve work conditions and the difficulty of daily tasks through an efficient, warm and generous building. The project consists of a main technical volume (a transfer dock for waste treatment and garages) as well as servant domestic volumes gathering the offices and workshops.
The request is also to promote a common resource: wood from local forests.
Located on the fringe of the forest, as close as possible to the stumps, the construction is designed and dimensioned based on the available timber species, tools and local savoir-faire. Logs cut last year dry out, in the shade of the trees still standing. They are debited and transformed on site to be later used by all trades.
The project is a plea for timber construction and its virtues: structure, beams, cladding and ceilings, doors, windows, siding and partitions, the wood is used everywhere and in various states of transformation: raw, not edged, planed, sanded, oiled. It’s a 100% Vercors wood construction, being 186 m³ of solid wood chopped, sawn and processed on site.

Atelier PNG is an architecture firm established by Pedro, Grichka and Nicolas, architects, photographers, travellers.
Atelier PNG was created in 2007 and practices between Paris and the mountains of Isère, between the metropolis and a small town, between density and rurality. This dual location reflects their vision: they establish a continuity from the structure to the landscape, they pay a special attention to what already exists and always promote local resources.
In 2014 they received the prestigious French prize “Albums des Jeunes Architects et Paysagistes” (AJAP 2014) and the European 40 Under 40 award. In 2016 they were co-curators of the French Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale within the framework of the exhibition “New riches”.
In 2018 they were awarded with the French national prize for timber construction.
Antoine (Pedro) Petit is a certified architect. He was trained in traditional arts at Atelier Pierre Soulages, with Sylvie Abélanet, artist-engraver and Philippe Cozzolino, MOF master glassmaker. He worked with architect Shigeru Ban.
Nicolas Debicki is a dplg architect and a graduate in environmental quality from Paris-Est MLV University. He is Consulting Architect at CAUE de l'Isère with CC Coeur de Chartreuse and Tullins. He received technical and industrial training. He has worked with architects Valode & Pistre and Architecture Studio in particular.
Grichka Martinetti is a dplg architect and heritage architect trained at the Chaillot School. He is also a photographer and graphic designer. He studied notably at North London University (now CASS). He was collaborator in Ateliers Jean Nouvel.
