Floret Arquitectura maintained the building's original function as collective housing. The intervention involved a complete reconstruction of the interior, an extension of the upper floors, and a renovation of the roof, utilizing the attic to create new apartments. As a result, the building now has ten apartments: nine with one bedroom and one with three bedrooms.
To give the project a more contemporary feel, custom-made furniture was incorporated to optimize the use of the available space, ensuring both comfort and an attractive aesthetic.
The project balances the building's historic features with the demands of modern living. To preserve its original identity, the façade was maintained, and the tiles, the window frames that define its architectural character, and the decorative granite elements that are distinctive of traditional Portuguese construction were carefully preserved.

En el corazón de Viseu, en la Rua da Vitória, tuvimos el privilegio de rehabilitar un edificio de gran valor patrimonial, marcado por una historia rica y única. Este proyecto requirió un delicado equilibrio entre la preservación de su legado histórico y la creación de espacios modernos y funcionales adecuados a las demandas de la vida contemporánea.
El edificio, severamente dañado por un incendio, se presentó como un caso de estudio en rehabilitación urbana, donde fue posible conservar la esencia de su identidad original. El exterior fue preservado cuidadosamente, con especial atención a la conservación de los azulejos que cuentan la historia del lugar, los intrincados diseños de los marcos de las ventanas que definen su carácter arquitectónico y los elementos decorativos de granito, que son sellos distintivos de la construcción tradicional portuguesa.
El programa del edificio continuó su función original como vivienda colectiva. La intervención incluyó la ampliación de los pisos superiores y la rehabilitación del techo, utilizando el ático para crear nuevos apartamentos.
El proyecto dio como resultado 10 apartamentos cuidadosamente diseñados, nueve de los cuales son estudios o unidades de un dormitorio, junto con una espaciosa unidad de tres dormitorios. También se mantuvo un espacio comercial en la planta baja.
En el interior, debido a los daños irreparables provocados por el incendio, la intervención implicó una reconstrucción completa. Considerando el tamaño limitado de muchas de las unidades residenciales, la solución se centró en crear espacios versátiles y optimizados, donde el diseño interior jugó un papel central.
Con un enfoque contemporáneo, se diseñaron piezas de mobiliario personalizadas para cada espacio, combinando funcionalidad con atractivo estético. Estas soluciones a medida se desarrollaron para maximizar el uso del espacio disponible, asegurando la comodidad y un diseño atemporal. Cada detalle fue elaborado cuidadosamente para brindar a los residentes un equilibrio armonioso entre el encanto histórico del edificio y la modernidad que requieren los estilos de vida actuales.
A pesar del estado inicial del edificio, este proyecto demuestra cómo la rehabilitación puede honrar el pasado mientras imagina el futuro, contribuyendo a la renovación de áreas urbanas históricas y la creación de una ciudad más habitable.

In the heart of Viseu, on Rua da Vitória, we had the privilege of rehabilitating a building of significant heritage value, marked by a rich and unique history. This project required a delicate balance between preserving its historical legacy and creating modern, functional spaces suited to contemporary living demands.
The building, severely damaged by a fire, presented itself as a case study in urban rehabilitation, where it was possible to retain the essence of its original identity. The exterior was carefully preserved, with special attention given to the conservation of the tiles that tell the story of the location, the intricate window frame designs that define its architectural character, and the decorative granite elements, which are hallmarks of traditional Portuguese construction.

We believe that, despite the initial condition of the building, this project demonstrates how rehabilitation can honor the past while envisioning the future, contributing to the renewal of historic urban areas and the creation of a more livable city.
