Under the concept of "hidden light" the lighting design firm PRO.L has executed the Ahn Luh Guantang Resorts and Residence project, an architectural ensemble rooted in the local style of Chengdu, Sichuan province of China.

The project employs decorative lights and indirect lighting to enrich the spatial hierarchy and give guests a comfortable state to feel the western Sichuan style.
The design of PRO.L captures the subtle atmosphere generated between the space and the mind, resulting in the authentic appearance of the hotel through the lighting. This is why the lighting is combined with nature through a layered and emotional design method.

The important role of light in this project is to subtly withdraw it behind the space closest to the users, properly presenting the architectural charm of the western style of the area to feel the experience of empathy in the light and shadow of the landscape.

Description of project by PRO.L

When one’s mind remains tranquil, one could create a whole new universe.
A serene mind creates greatness.
This is the spirit behind Ahn Lhu.

As the first luxury hotel brand which is truly rooted in Chinese civilization, Ahn Luh Guantang Resorts and Residence is deeply rooted in the local architecture style and creating an original ancient charm that can be explored all year round while maintaining its official design style.

How do we accommodate our guests, and provide them with comfort? PROL utilized the concept of “hidden light”, generating the unique space design for resort in West Sichuan.

The lighting remains hidden within the space. The designer has captured the subtle atmosphere between space and mind, formulating the authentic appearance of the hotel through lighting. Through layered and emotional designing method, one presents the lighting which combines itself with nature.

During the daytime, the sun shines on all things and melts into all things, inspires travelers’ perception of life. During the night, light is hidden in all things, building people’s experience and admiration of life.

The hotel lobby is dazzling and well-structured. Under the flowing light, the ingenuity of the stone piers and the simplicity of the beams are set against each other, and the “thickness” and “thinness” of western Sichuan are presented together.

The hidden light behind the fine wooden grille of the banquet hall reveals a subtle and hazy beauty, and also blends a trace of chic and delicacy into the simple Western Sichuan style.

The all-day dining bar restores the dining scene of the old Sichuan mansion: open space, orderly tables and chairs. After lighting the wall lanterns, the warm light filled the room, as if to fuse everyone together. The carefully set light is carefully emphasized, and also distinguish the privacy of each table.

In the SPA and swimming pool areas, the light is hidden deeper, blurring the boundaries between indoor and outdoor. Tranquil, fuzzy light appears freely everywhere in the space, arousing people's perception to a quiet life in a shelter away from the world.

Guest rooms, loam walls, thatched roofs, wooden beams, all these features are clear in the western Sichuan building style of the hotel. In response to this, the use of artificial light is reduced indoors to reduce the brightness. However, considering the long-term urban living habits of modern people, designers still use decorative lights and indirect lighting to enrich the spatial hierarchy and give guests a comfortable state to feel the western Sichuan style.

In Ahn Luh Guantang Resorts and Residence, natural and ingenious light seems nowhere to be found, yet everywhere. This is a design strategy and a way of thinking. Here, the light does not reflect and flash golden, does not show itself, just quietly and subtly retreats behind the space, properly presents the architectural charm of the western Sichuan style, so that every traveler who comes to Ahn Luh Guantang Resorts and Residence can feel the experience of empathy in the light and shadow of the scenery, it brings tranquility and greatness to everyone here.
