Álvarez Diestro traveled to Kyiv before the conflict has erupted. At that time, he was invited by the Molodist Kyiv International Film Festival to present his new feature movie titled ‘Trains bound for the sea’ to the Ukrainian public. He could never have imagined that, a few months later, the city would suffer such a tragic fate.
The series is a metaphor for hope so that the constructions are a symbol of what should not have happened and of the beginning of a new time for the country. "these structures shaping Kyiv’s landscape could represent the beginning of a new era for Ukraine", said Manuel Álvarez Diestro.
Álvarez Diestro droving with his father the new districts, particularly those on the other side of the Dnieper River, where most of the new interventions are taking place, to photograph the new urban structures.
