Maria Smigielska. Architect and researcher based in Zurich, Switzerland, oscillating between architecture, arts and technology. MSc degree in Architecture from TU Poznan (Poland, 2009) and MAS degree in Architecture and Information, ETH Zürich (Switzerland, 2013). As a researcher and lecturer has worked with DBT ETH Zurich, HGK FHNW Basel, UfG Linz, ZHdK and BFH. She has exhibited internationally since 2013, with recent appearances at Tallinn Architecture Biennale 2017, Biennale for Arts and Technology in Trondheim 2020, ZKM Karlsruhe 2021, Copernicus Science Center 2023 and many more.
Maria is an architect and researcher with diverse experience in academia and practice for architecture and design. Her interest lies in enhancing the creative potential for digital and physical creation of architectural elements, design objects, artistic installations, and interactive systems. The methods often used are encoding and modulating materials properties, employing novel design strategies and custom, mostly robotic fabrication, altogether treated holistically through digital infrastructures.
