Smart - Arquitetura para a vida contemporânea. Architecture practice founded in 2008 and directed by Márcio Carvalho and Ricardo Ruschel based in the Brazilian city of Porto Alegre.
More than developing contemporary architecture, its purpose is focused on the deep understanding of the needs and potentialities of our contemporary time and urban territory to develop architectures in tune with contemporary life, with the aim of designing buildings not for the architect, but for society, from the understanding of its reality, its niches and cuts.
Throughout these 10 years the studio, its method and its architecture have evolved. They project, conceptualize, develop, incorporate and build their architecture together with academic projects of educational and cultural activation.
Legacy, responsibility, looking to the future and respect for the past, this is the great narrative that has shaped its approach and work processes. Smart understands architecture as a sum of multiple narratives that operate in culture, internally or externally, individually or collectively.
Their work is recognized both nationally and internationally, having received important awards and honorable mentions throughout the studio's history.
